DryBlock - future-proofing

‘For a construction company, the DryBlock™ system is a breath of fresh air. We know we’re not just relying on coatings to seal masonry anymore. We now have a great second line of defence against water penetration. Call it future-proofing. DryBlock™ helps to make houses weathertight. If you are at all concerned about rotting homes, then this is the product for you.’

Rob Dines, Director, Eden Homes

Eden Homes specialises in building quality masonry homes. They’re solidly constructed, warm in winter, cool in summer and quiet. The introduction of Stevenson DryBlock technology to their portfolio has resulted in their traditional masonry construction being further improved.

Unlike other masonry products that naturally absorb water, DryBlock and DryMortar use a water-repellent formula. The weathertightness is built-in. The system is designed to take a surface coating, such as paint, plaster, cladding or a sealer.

‘We build a lot of medium to large masonry homes and we always recommend DryBlock,’ says Rob. ‘That’s because it’s water-repellent. In addition to the obvious weathertightness benefits, during wet weather construction the DryBlocks will air-dry extremely quickly. This means there’s not so much down time.

‘Building inspectors are also getting to know the system and that it doesn’t absorb water. For masonry home builders such as ourselves, using DryBlock means that we don’t have to wait for a drying out period prior to lining,’ he says.

‘We’ve been spoilt by the DryBlock system. By using DryBlock during winter we are more productive as we save a lot of waiting time. Using DryBlock has enabled us to speed up construction time. That’s a definite benefit. Our blocklayers and plasterers are all aware of the benefits of the product and it’s now rare for them to use anything else if they have a choicein the matter.’

This is now the third year that Eden Homes has been using DryBlock™.‘We are serious about our business and building homes of quality and integrity. Quality systems like DryBlock fitperfectly with our business and add enormous value. From our perspective, we’re here for the long haul. We’ve been involved in constructing houses for over 30 years. The DryBlock system gives us genuine peace of mind,’ says Rob.

‘Another benefit of the product that we’ve now discovered relates to internal retaining walls for, say, a split-level home. We’re now specifying the DryBlock system with a tanking membrane for internal step walls between levels asa second line of defence.’

Eden Homes has entered the Master Builders’ House of the Year Awards twice and walked away with four awards. Their Sovana house, which used the DryBlock system won the Gold Award for the Show Home of the Year, as well as the overall category prize.
